sorry if this is very basic but have been sent an .avi file which I want to run. However when I try to open it I'm told I don't have a sutable decompressor. Is their anywhere that I can download this from?

Many thanks,

SBD/Andy

You should first download GSpot - www.headbands.com/gspot/

This is a small application which you can load the AVI into and it tells you which audio and video codecs the AVI uses and whether you have them or not.

Then you can either add the appropriate codec like DivX or XVid or whatever is needed seperately or by downloading a codec pack like NimoLite - www.divx-digest.com/software/nimo_lite_pack.html

Just remember if you go the DIVX route don't touch Dr DIXV if you're running XP SP2. It causes all manner of grief.
