Something very strange has just happened. I was loading W98 onto a PC from the CD, when there was an almighty bang. It sounded electrical, and at first I thought that the power supply had blown, but the PC was still running.

When I tried to open the CD drive, the drawer would only come out slightly, so I pulled it out manually, only to find the W98 CD in bits - it had shattered!

Never seen anything like this before. The computer was upright and the CD drive level.

Very strange!

What you have discovered is a little-known "forced upgrade" feature built into Win98 CDs to encourage you to upgrade to Win2k or WinXP.
