I've been putting this off through fear of breaking it but my Desire is absolutely rammed full of crud that doesn't seem to fully delete and it keeps not receiving email. The Nexus 4 I've ordered is quoting 6 to 7 weeks for shipping!

Trouble is I have no idea how to reset the phone without losing the operating system etc. Is there a restore factory settings option that I use? Do I then go through the set up like I did in the beginning setting up the google accounts etc? It's one of the early Desire models that is just over 2 years old.

Internal reset - Android 2.1

"Settings" > "Privacy" > "Factory data reset"

Internal reset - Android 2.2

"Settings" > "SD & Phone Storage" > "Factory data reset"

Yep. Factory reset, go to Settings -> Storage -> Factory data reset. That won't wipe anything on the SD storage though, remember to take that out and either format it or stick a new one in for sale.

Think you can also turn it on with the volume down button depressed to bring up a more in depth version.

This normally gives you a recovery and clear storage option

Christ knows how I ended up posting this in GG - was meant to be in Computers & Gadgets - sorry - if a mod can move I'd be grateful. Cheers
