Mobile forum posting adding extra words/letters

Hey guys
I have an issue with trying to reply to topics on my phone on many different sites.
When I try to type a post or a search I will write a word such as 'that' then hit space but the word will double up on itself so will come out as 'thatthat'. It seems to do it on many different sites. Even google.
It works if I add an extra letter and then delete it. So type 'thate' then delete the 'e' but I don't think I should have to be doing that. It is literally every word. Even the single letters double up.
My phone is a sony xperia s using chrome on android if that makes any difference
Any advice at all, its driving me insane. It has to be something simple. There is nothing obvious in the settings menu/text input etc
