mpeg storage size

Hi everybody i have a problem,i have a short video of the "S" meet on cd, approx 7 minutes, its 280mb in size in mpeg format
Is there a way of reducing the storage size to something a bit more manageable, ie a conversion program.

You could use Windows Media Encoder

Which has an idiot proof conversion wizard.....
