Bit of an odd one this :

dragging a whole load of mp3s into Nero to burn to a CD I organised them on the CD to be burned, put them in folders, and renamed them adding 01, 02, 03 etc. at the beginning of each track in each directory to get them into a certain order.

Trouble is, Nero seems to want to organise them in the alphabetical order of the source (ie the unmodified track names).

Anyway of changing this without copying the original files, renaming them, burning them, and then deleting?

You are making sure that you have Audio cd layout instead of Data CD, then you can put into whatever order you want. What version of Nero you got?

It's 5.5.8.3

How do you change the way it's displayed? Obviously I'm writing it as a data CD but there doesn't seem to be any way to re-order the tracks, they're automatically sorted alphanumerically by source filename

To clarify: I'm burning a data CD full of mp3s to use on car MP3 player.

If you're writing a data CD, then I'd have thought there was no real meaning to order. The order comes from whatever you view the contents with (e.g. Explorer's sort by name/date/size/type/bitrate/whatever). The only case I can think of where order might matter is if you're wanting to play it in one of these play-anything-at-all DVD players, in which case IT will probably do its own sorting based on either name or date. Your only option would be appear to be to change the source file names.
