Memory problems?

Im hoping someone can explain to me how to overcome this problem. I was playing an old DOS game which uses the minimal of memory. However after an hour of playing, the game crashes out nad says:

EMS detected and used.
Not enough memory.
RAM 365360.

I have 512mg of DDR400 RAM - why has this happened?

IIRC its something to do with extending the memory. Can someone tell me the command I have to edit and which file to do it in please?
