Hope somebody can help me with this problem. I am trying to complete a windows update on a fresh install of 98SE but I am having some problems. I have managed to update everything except Internet explorer and DirectX 9.

On updating internet explorer the download gets to 13915 kB of 17 odd MB and stops, it will go no further. This stop seems to coincide with the installation of media player as part of the overall download. I have tried restarting, deleting the files downloaded and then restarting and have looked at the windows website troubleshooter, but all to no avail. this problem has occured with two computers now, of differing spec but the same OS.

Can anyone help me!!

As for DirectX - it hangs in the initialisation stage before dowloading even commences.

Cheers for now,
Steve.

Tried just un-ticking the media player update and see if the rest installs?

Cool. Try just downloading the newer version of media player rather that using Windows Update now. I may work, or at least give you more info on why it doesn't want to play. I think Version 9 is for you. You did say SE didn't you?

Cheers
