BT Yahoo offered a 512 broadband service to me in the sticks (less than 6 miles from a large town). But they took the money, cancelled my Anytime account and couldnt install because the signal to noise ratio on the line as too poor. So I have to reinstate the Anytime modem service.

So the question is, what other solutions have people used that work in rural locations miles from any cable service?

A friend of mine is in a similar situation and now uses satellite broadband.

It gives 512K download, but only <56K upload as you still use the modem / dial up for uploading.

It works via the same dish as his Sky TV setup - not bad by all accounts.

I've been using Wireless Broadband from Firstnet - you just need to work out if its in your area.

There again I'm getting rid of it a.s.a.p. to go ADSL (now I can have it) - not a great recommendation I suppose!
