I have a machine with Windows Small Business Server 2003 Premium installed. The machine connects to the internet using BT Broadband (ADSL).

I want to secure this connection with a firewall, but I cannot even find the firewall to switch it on! I only need a simple solution, but one that will allow me to enable ports for FTP, SQL Server and IIS.

Is there anything like there is on XP (SP2) where you can right-click the ADSL connection, go to advanced and set the firewall up? That would be ideal.

Laurence.

load server management

then choose "Connect to the Internet" from the To Do List

It's only a very basic firewall though, you can't set up rules or anything (that I know of!)

sbs2003 premium comes with ISA doesn't it. Its on the premium disk. It is not a trivial firewall but once installed the internet ocnnection wizard will slap a basic config on it that will get you going. Easiest if you have two network cards in your server. One to the adsl and one for internal network.

by a cheap soho hardware firewall like a Watchguard or Netscreen or get an integrated DSL router and firewall to replace what you currently have, both will be chaeper and easier then the SBS upgrade to ISA server

Plus I wouldn't trust a Microsoft software firewall running on the machine it's protecting further than I could comfortably spit a rat.

Nix, sure, till the cows come home (but still go hardware!)

Windows, never EVER software a Co-Lo machine.

Its not even a disaster waiting to happen, it simply has happend!
