Windows Update

The windows update on my laptop seems to have stopped working! trying to install through the website it always fails. If i view installation history i'm given the error code 8007F004.

If i try and do an install manually i get a pop up box

Setup Error
You do not have permission to update Windows XP
Please contact your system administrator

I'm logged on with an account thats a member of the local admins group, ive also tried logging on with the local administrator account which also doesnt work.

any ideas?

Specifically the local Admin requires:

"Manage auditing and security logs" and "Take Ownership of Files or Other Objects" priviledge.

Are you connected to a network as if you are you may require the domain admin account depending on how XP is configured.

Done that have set up a test OU and set a group policy on that ou giving my logon the right priviledges though still doesn't allow me to update!
