Why can't chosing a phone be easy! ;-)

So I want an Android phone. I've had a HTC Hero, a HTC Sensation and I've been happy with them. So you'd think the HTC One might be the thing.

But is it? I mean what I really want is a HTC Sensation with a longer battery life (3 or 4 days standby like the works Nokia E63 would be lovely).

So if I stick with Android, does anybody know which phone would offer similar performance to a Sensation but has the best battery life?

The Galaxy S3 is out due to the wife having one and it deciding to "sudden death". So I'm a bit wary of them.

Or I could go to a 16GB iPhone for "free". But I never really get on with iTunes, and I'm not sure battery life is much better than the 1 day I get from the sensation.

I've got an S4 after 6 years of Blackberry Bolds. I'd get it again without a shadow of a doubt should I need to get a new contract. The battery will last a full day even with a decent amount of usage.

Never going to get it
Perhaps have a look at third party add-on battery's (that add bulk and weight)
Have you considered a lumia 925 (wont last any better than the others mind you)

I haven't ruled it out.

If there are no real contenders on the "how long the battery lasts" front I'll probably get the HTC One...If I can get a good car mount for it...oh balls that's another variable. <grumpy>

I don't really want to get any bigger screen size. I mount it on the car screen for satnav and crash cam purposes. I had a look at the not the other day and it's just bigger than I want to be sticking up there.

The extended batts are good, though only 1 fits in the original cover. The other extended ones need a new fatter cover

Nokia Lumia 720 wins this months battery test in PC Pro leaving 80% after 24 hours, whereas all the others are 60%. Windows Phone 8 is great too. Worth a look...

Lumia 920 only had 40% battery left.

I went from the Sensation to a One - battery life is improved with the same kind of use (and the power saver enabled) and it's generally a great phone all round.

Mine won't accept incoming calls at the moment but that could be a network thing, it's not like anyone uses a mobile for telephone calls these days anyway.

Ok I think I'm going to go for a HTC One.

I'll never get the battery life I want from anything. I've been happy with HTC, and if I stick with Android all my existing apps will work. A nice easy transition.

Now to see if I can reduce my line rental and still get a "free" phone. Or if I have to do some maths.

Oh FFS. Apparently clicking the option "phones that are free to me", doesn't actually mean those phones are "free" on my plan. It means they are free on a plan, but not necessarily mine. So they are not actually "free to me". They are "free" to someone spending considerably more.

It's almost as if they want to make upgrading without paying them extra cash as much ball ache as possible.

If you're not overly-fussed about having the very latest thing, have a look at the One X. I've had mine for just over a year and can't fault it. Most Android phones benefit from ripping out the network's version of the OS and putting a custom (or stock HTC) ROM on.

You should be able to find a One X for free on a good tariff now the One is out. Also don't discount the One S, many say that bar the screen, it's the better phone. Being dual-core rather than quad-core the battery life is slightly better too apparently.

If you are still happy with your Sensation (I have one as well ) then why not just get a new battery and a spare with charger? I know it means carrying around extra items but it might meet your needs. How about this one from Amazon? The Anker batteries get good reviews and are an increase in capacity over the standard battery. Do you use a profile scheduler to turn your data/wifi/gps/gsm on and off as required as well? I switch my gsm off at night (don't want and don't expect any calls - family have home number) and only switch my wifi/data on at certain time periods (quick check in the morning, lunchtime and evening - I'm not driven by my phone). This all helps to eek out more life from the battery. I use Profile Scheduler from the Play store (free).

To be honest I was only looking at upgrading because I thought I was being offered some pretty decent phones as free upgrades. Having now discovered that "free for you", means £200 and a monthly increase. I'm less inclined to change it.

I've just got a HTC One S (very hard to find, but I went through Tesco phone shop). My battery can "easily" reach 3 days/2 nights without charge. That's with moderate use; a few phone calls, periodically checking emails over 3G or Wifi. I work from home, so my phone is generally used as a phone/email device - not something that keeps me entertained for 2 hours of commuting a day, etc.

Its actually pretty easy for me, when one of my offspring gets a new one then I inherit their old one, should be due a new one in the next couple of months I believe!

I've gone from a Galaxy S2 to a Sony Xperia Z - can't believe the battery life on it - get two days with normal use (emails, phone calls, odd game, some music), and sometimes risk a third day (but charge half way through). If you leave it on standby overnight, barely uses 3% of battery.

Was free on my plan a month ago (£30pm), and probs come down since then - worth a look
