I've started having an IE-related issue, which seems to be peculiarly isolated to PH.
Say I have the main list of forums up: I click on General gassing, and hey presto, the page refreshes. If it does eign to give me the list of topics, most of the time when I click on a topic it refreshes back to the forums list.
Occasionally when it does this it'll still let me into 'favourite forums' OK, but sometimes not.
The other thing I've just discovered as well is that I can't get in to vixpy1's chatroom.
Now whether the two issues are related I don't know
No other sites I've tried (including some rapid refreshing on Ebay earlier) show any problems.
I've also had two blue-screen crashes in two days, coincidentally or otherwise I was using Shareaza to download some South Park at the time.

So far I've:
Emptied temp. internet files;
Deleted all cookies;
Run Adaware and removed 51 bits of crap that had no business being there;
Checked 'Add/remove Programs' and uninstalled some piece of advertising sh!te that also had no business being there;
Checked using Explorer that Windows isn't harbouring some obvious application that I've missed;
Checked Task Manager to see if any processes are running that shouldn't be.

I'm also running a firewall that so far has been pretty reliable - obviously Shareaza is an open door though.

Any ideas?

Ian

Which version of IE are you using and is the machine up to date with hotfixes (using Windows Update etc)?

Right, run all the hotfixes (though I did the same a few weeks ago, couldn't believe how many more patches were out! ).
Thought it was fixed after the reboot, as it seemed OK no matter what I did. Switched off, went back to work, came home and straight away it's playing up again.

IE is 5.something....

www.mozilla.org

Try re-running ad-aware (but make sure you update the definitions first) and see how much crap is installed now

Latest version of IE is 6.08.2800.1106 IIRC. It also has a SP1 and about 9 or 10 hotfixes. Try loading that.

Done that! And it still plays up...
Although most of the time I can now get into the chatroom (not that there's anyone to talk to, but as it was another symptom...)
I've allowed cookies specifically for PH, but no joy. I thought it was the firewall that might be causing the prob, but I've even switched it off and PH still doesn't work properly.

Any other thoughts?

Just in case its caused by any odd web settings try the following within IE:

1. Under Tools select Reset Web Settings.
2. Again under Tools select Internet Options then select the Advanced tab. Then select Restore Defaults.

Worth a try...

Right, seems more or less sorted. I 'upgraded' to IE6 and then fannied around with the internet security settings until, eventually, it works.
Now to figure out what's holding up my email sending...

Cheers guys!

Got to agree with the rest about mozilla firefox. Internet Explorer is the most unsecure browser out there. I had no end of problems whilst using it. As soon as I switched to Mozilla the problems stopped. It's easy to use and it will import your bookmarks for you.

See what you think. www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/
