Have done many BB installations, including AOL, without problems.

Am now trying to connect a customer with a DG834 router instead of the supplied AOL modem. This is the first time I have tried to connect to AOL with a router.

AOL Tech support say this modem/router is supported.

The line is enabled.

The modem tries to sync but fails.

I have set the MTU to 1400, and the correct password and username is set in the router.

Is their some other trick to get the router to sync with the line? With every other ISP you just plug and go.

Will be going back later with a replacement DG834 just in case, but any ideas in the meantime?

I bet you guys can answer quicker than AOL Tech Support!!

And no I haven't tried the supplied AOL modem yet. Was trying to avoid loading the drivers etc, but i guess i'll have to give it a go.

Well have been back and tried the USB modem - same result, no sync.

Actually, that's not strictly true; the DG834 did sync and log in for about 45 secs this afternoon and I was able to view a web page before it dropped out again.

Line tests by AOL Tech Support - pass.

They are now running a 'Suspend & Resume' cycle to try and cure what they call 'Account ghosting', where the AOL system thinks you are logged in but you aren't, but I have my doubts..

My money is on an BT exchange problem but they seem reluctant to push it up to BT at the moment.

No sync - deffo problem with the line, exchange or modem rather than anything AOL could be doing.

Given you've tried 2 modems already, that leaves the line and the exchange. You'll have to get AOL to hassle BT... that should be fun
