Not sure if anyone can help or not but I have a problem with my computer as follows.
It will not allow me to install any new software (eg Norton System works, Outlook 2002 etc) I have recently had memory upgraded & at the same time I asked them to check for viruses as I already had this problem. I had Norton Anti Virus 2003 installed & was told it had cleared lots of viruses (Don't know how he installed it!) Now the only way I can get Norton to run is in safe mode (as this also stops just after starting scan) & it comes up clear? It also will not allow me to switch on auto protect status.
I have also used Adaware & spybot to clear system but still can't intall anything? Once disk is put in it gets as far as starting to install then just stops!& disappears!
Any advise on the possible cause/solution would be gratefully received. I am running on XP professional version 2002.

Thanks
Howard Kendall.

I cna't even begin to think of whats up with it. I'd take it back to the people who "fixed" it.

Is it a custom built pc or an off the shelf one? If it has a recovery disk you could try that...

Sorry I can;t help more.

Have you tried re-installing XP over the top? It sounds like you have got a few missing essential files (specifically related to the install wizard). I'd boot from the CD-rom drive if possible and try a repair first - a full install second (you may need to go into the Bios and change the boot up sequence).
