I've just downloaded "That Peter Kay Thing", 6 epsidodes in Xvid format, special features, director's commentary, covers the lot.

How can I turn this into a DVD which is viewable on normal DVD players?

ps. I do have a DVD RW

Download "Nero Vision Express" and as many Nero plugins you can (I think MPEG to DVD is the one you need.

This will then let you create DVDs with menus, etc etc, it's all really easy.

Enjoy!

As I add a file (.avi) of 220mb, the display says "Used Space 0.93GB of 4.38GB"

Why is that?

It has to re-encode your avi file into proper DVD format - it's the quality of the avi/mpg/whatever file that dictates the amount of space it will take up, rather than the length.

The higher the quality, the more of the DVD it will use up.

Can I make a suggestion?

(from my experience)

DO NOT use Nero to recode AVIs into MPEGs. Its shit. I tried an experiment on a CD (less tears if it goes tits up than a DVD-R). The lip synch was shite.

Personally, I use an app called VirtualDub to rip a WAV file off the AVI, then TMPGenC to rip the AVI + WAV into an MPEG.

Finally, NeroVision Express to burn the DVD.

I've an excellent PDF guide on the above two apps, both of which are freeware (you're a poor student IIRC).

Hope this helps,
Greg
