Upload and download speed ?
Discussion
A Few Reasons.
a) Upload is harder to provide on a technological POV. upload is much more distant dependant than download.
b) BT makes ALOT of money from leased line sales.. If they allowed people to upload alot (Server Data!) then they would lose LL sales, as people switched to hosting their data on DSL (or even multiple bonded DSL lines for resilliancy) over Leased Lines.. which is NOT what BT want.
c) People just dont need to upload much at all, we all mostly leechers.. we pull down.
I use about 75mbit Out, and only 33mbit in (and that will be as i have a few larger plcs who actaully recieve more than they send out :O)

'Slightly' more expensive? ![]()
Something of an understatement methinks?
Compared to BT leased lines its a total bargain.
On a price basis, sure, but on an SLA / Service basis, no chance.
SDSL will never 'be allowed' to come close to the stability or performance of a LL, simply as it would wipe billions off BTs Revenue.
You recall the Anaconda and Python programs of times gone by (if not, google BT and them

SDSL is usualy at a lower contention ratio, 20:1 or so, and there are some companies that do 1:1
But ATM it isnt a replacement for leased line, as the SLA isnt a patch on what it needs to be, artificialy, to keep BT's profits healthy.
True enough there is a massive difference between what BT can do and what BT will do!

Let's not forget that SDSL (Symmetrical Digital Subscriber Line) is now available which offers the same upload speed as the dowload, though slightly more expensive, it is ideal for business use where mail servers can use the basndwidth.
