I have 256 mb of ram on my pc i want to upgrade as much as I can. If I get a 512mb module will it work along side the 256mb module or do they have to be matching sizes?
The memory is ddr 184 pin.

You can put in whatever size you want (within certain limits of your motherboard). You just need to make sure the memory you but is at least as fast as your existing memory (best to try and match the speed).

www.crucial.com have a memory selector - just in case you have a badged PC such as a Dell or a Packard Bell etc.

Thanks for that. I have been on crucial's site earlier and checked it all out. I seem to remember that my last computer had to have matched modules and wasnt sure if things were still the same.

That used to be the case with 486s and Pentiums. Generally you had to have two matched pairs.

It depends on which chipset your motherboard is using. Also you need to look at how your memory sockets are configured. Sometimes it's ok to be different memory strips in different banks, sometimes it's not.

Check your manual first.
