A friend was given this phone - and was told its worth something
I've done a bit of research on her behalf and it seems the vertu is a middle eastern phone with some clout - some are changing hands for a few thousand pounds!

I've had a good look at this one and by all means looks genuine however there's a few things that are making me think this is actually a good replica - not the real thing

firstly the quality of the engraving at the back where it says 8.0 megapixels and vertu seems a little untidy. Usually when you get such high end items the engraving is usually of a very high quality.

secondly the chinese writing where the imei number etc is and on the piece of paper in the box.

finally its a dual sim which points towards the chinese markets

i've not been able to come by a google search image and found a vertu ascent phone of a similar design either...
anyone had any experience of these phones?

Vertu was, until recently owned by Nokia (edit: genuine ones may still be made by them>). Do indeed sell £1k+.

Never in a million years is that genuine: For starters the finish is shocking... and the R in the logo is the wrong way round...!

They were originally S40, then they started doing Symbian based devices. No more ancient than iOS (which is just Unix with no freedom), Android (which is just Unix with too much freedom?) or WP7 (which was WinCE with a new interface).

These days they're running Android, hate to think how nasty the skin is they've slapped on top.

The actual physical hardware (on genuine Vertu phones) is well built - hand made (in Fleet iirc), highest quality switches, metals, etc. Sure, the designs are varying degrees of terrible ....

But the one posted here is hilariously bad; its the sort of thing they used to sell at some of the stalls over at Blackbushe on a sunday.

Looking at the user guide for the RHV-3 http://www.vertu.com/downloads/user-guides/Ascent_... it looks like that one is a fake due to the dual sim slots, hell the Chinese writing makes me think its a knock off

Dual sim
R the wrong way round
Moulded plastic to look like screws (Vertu would only ever use the highest grade, top quality screws)
Probably doesn't even have the concierge ....

she was saying its the vertu ferrari edition - even though there isnt a ferrari badge on it at all.

this is stuff dreams are made off lol.

£80 for a knock off phone and the boasting that followed it.

All of which leaves you with a bit of a dilemma... tell/not tell? If so, when? If not, will someone else?

That doesn't necessarily differentiate it from a genuine Vertu phone though, does it?

a friend used to work for Nokia for a while, and had one as a loan phone... I seem to recall him being distintcly underwhelmed by it.
