Hi just thought their would be some wizards on here to tell me how to synchronize my 2 bt home hubs together , I have the main one the other side of the house and have put a new one the far side and using a cat 5 cable have plugged it into the main unit and ran it to the new unit soon as I connect the new unit it works but knocks the main unit off line !!

ANYONE ?

Thanks in advance

What are the models of the two units?

Generally just plugging one into the other won't do you much good. Depending how clever the software of the routers is, you might be able to set it up as a repeated single network; otherwise you'll be stuck using two different IP ranges in different halves of the house (i.e. no easy file sharing between the two halves).

Just go into the second non broadband router.

connect to a laptop with cat5 on its own.

Go to the router address usually 192.168.1.254

Turn off "IP DHCP" (usually have to press advanced settings and network)

Change the router IP to 192.168.1.253

plug in to the main router with your CAT5 and your done.

One extra tip, set the Wifi Name and pass exactly the same on the second router and you can roam around the house with it changing seamlessly.

What he said.

Basically DHCP is the thing which assigns a unique IP address to each device on the network. If there's two, each device on the network won't know which is the main one to 'trust' and use the IP it assigns.
The other main thing DHCP is needed for is to assign the 'default gateway' - i.e. the IP address of the router where the internet connection is coming in.

Turning off DHCP on one of the home hubs *should* fix all your issues. If not, it's most probably because both of them have the same default IP address out-of-the-box. You'll need to make one of them different. I suggest setting it as 192.168.1.253.

Good call.
This is what I`ve done with my network (3 routers currently).
I had to put the "slave" routers into "router only/bridged" mode as they had built in modems.
