Poor computer performance ???

Anybody else getting this annoying con when accessing Piston Heads?

"Important Message" "Your PC Performance is poor" "Fix now"

Used to be old Parkinson offering funeral arrangements.

Performance of mine is ok. I use Uniblue Registry Booster for what its worth?

Use Chrome and Adblock. It also sounds like you could have some virus issues - AVG are a good free service.

I use AVG.

However, my 'home page' has now turned to BABYLON, and I too get these random PC FIX messages.

Anyone know how to get rid of Babylon? Seen quite a few threads on the Microsoft site.

What browser are you using? It does look like a malware toolbar.

I'd agree you have a malware infection. AVG or other virus protection software will not catch Malware you also need something like this:

MalwareBytes

The unpaid version is good enough

I'd scrap your registry booster too, no need for it, just another chance for something to get messed up.

Had to remove Babylon from my Grandads PC a while back, and also Conduit, which IIRC is the same thing.

Uninstalled Firefox and started with a new profile, this stuff can hide away in the browser profile in the cache or add-ons.


I'm using Avast Anti-virus at the moment, have been for about the past 3 years and it's done a great job, not had a single problem with it on my PC or the other computers in the house. Stopped using AVG a few years ago when it started getting bloated and using too many system resources.



Oh and also, why's this in General TVR? , wouldn't it be better in the computer section?

I use Registry Booster and it is a very useful programme and works as it says, so I'd hang on to it.

It doesn't do any damage like some can as it's relatively high level and doesn't remove items that should really be left.

Thanks folks. I use Kaspersky, free from Barclays Premier, supposed to be one of the best. My Sony is fast enough for me. If and when Parky comes back I guess things are ok, but don't buy his bl......dy. coffins!

Thanks David - I'll give it a go in the morning.
Thought I'd got rid, having looked (via Google) at the Microsoft site. Lots of comments on there as to Babylon sending your buying profile to goods suppliers etc.

...Have to add, I'm a bit of a numpty with computers and their finer points.

Just to close out on my 'problems'...

Loaded and ran malwarebytes as per Dave H's post.
Programme identified about 50'ish problems, which, having scrolled through the list, I deleted anything that had 'Babylon' connected to it, and any other iffy looking items.

Laptop seems better/quicker as well as not having the Babylon home page.

With what authority?

Looking after enterprise Wintel environments for 15 years and on the odd occasions people suggested registry boosters, they were largely laughed out of the room and on occasion weren't there on my next visit. Certainly isn't something that adds any value to a system, kind of like if the guy that washed your windscreen at lights just gave the swept area a wash down with muddy water...

I've always used cCleaner myself (both reg cleaner part and usual the temp file cleaner) - not perfect and had to manually remove all the reg keys for spigot when that found it's way onto my system (in a hurry to get a torrent of Mint 15 so didn't check Vuze properly) - but does what it says it's going to do and no more.
Nothing beats a clean install though.
