Office 2000 problems

This is a problem with all office apps, but if i take excel for example the app opens ok, but if you try to go to File and then to Exit or Save a message pops up telling me that there is missing macro and the operation can't be performed.
I looked for the file and found that it was hidden in the XLstart folder in Office. If i remove the hidden tick and then try to open Excel a VB script runs.
I have tried to un-install the applications and re-install, but this has had no affect.
Any ideas?
