Help please!

Just swapped 60Gb HDD for 200Gb. Used for storage only (2 hard drives). All I did was unplug one and replug the other. Made sure jumpers were same (no jumper). Bios reads it correctly. XP does not. Check device manager which has found the drive correctly, but on "My Computer" it is shown as a CD drive. Keeps asking me to "insert disc". What have I done wrong please chaps?

Is this a brand new hard disk?

If so you need to partition and format it.

You need to find a little program called F Disk, this will do it for you. it will either be on a floppy that came with your PC or you may have to find somewhere online and download it to floppy. restart PC with floppy in drive and run the program from there.

Been a while since i did it so cant remember exact procedures but it should be easy to work out.

On XP:

Right click My Computer, click manage,
Under Storage, click Disk Management
Find the new disk on the right, right click on it and select create partition.

Did this (as it seemed the simplest). Drive is only recognised as 128Gb not 200! What have I done wrong?

Thanks all for the advice so far BTW

Thanks. So I need the service pack for XP. That would be a real problem if I had a dodgy copy! cough.

Thanks for your help.
