Setting up FTP accounts on Win Server 2003
Discussion
Our main webserver is running Windows Server 2003 and up until recently we've never needed to give anyone direct FTP access, so we've just used a single account and stuck different sites on different ports. Well, we've got to do it properly now
and I ain't no windows administrator! I have a nice thick book which supposedly tells me everything I need to know to look after the server, but I need to read through 900-odd pages before the stuff in the FTP section will make any sense. Rather than do that I turn to the oracle that is Pistonheads
How do I go about setting up FTP sites, each with their own username/password and all running happily on port 21? The alternative is to say screw Windows authentication and use a third party FTP program.
Thanks!

Using Microsoft's FTP means you have to create NT users for each login. It's not too bad as you can just bung them into one group with the correct privileges.
My problem with the MS FTP is there's no (that I can find) bandwidth limiting. A friend uses G6FTP (Bullitproof now?) and says it's great (I used an old version and it was quite good). That has it's own username/passwork setup that is more featured than MS's.

Just open up the IIS console under Administrative Tools. From here just locate the FTP sites tree and you can set up users by clicking Properties.
If 'FTP Sites' is not there you may need to install it under Add/Remove programs. Just go to Windows Components and it's inder Internet Information Services.
