I'm running Win XP Pro. When I go to shut down at night the machine just does a restart every time. I have been holding the power button in at the appropriate time to close it down but I am not happy to keep doing this. Any ideas why my PC is doing this?

Cheers,

Mick, as an idea, try going to >Control Panel>Power Options and check the default settings. It may be that the computer is set to never be turned off??

Are you on Broadband? My NTL used to cause my pc to hang on the shutdown screen.

Turning the NTL modem off let the machine carry on as normal.

I'm sure someone will be along in a minute to explain why...

There could be many things from your information no one would know immediately what was wrong.

What have installed recently? Was it working before installing one of these programs/peripherals?

Do you have a firewall?

Do you have anti-spyware?

Do you have anti-virus?

I use Norton Internet Security and Anti-Virus, no additional spyware.
Have installed a few programs over the last couple of weeks. Can't remember when exactly it started playing up.

You haven't accidentally selected the 'Restart' option on the shutdown dialog, have you?
