Burnt DVD and PS2

I've just bought a DVD burner and when I play video from the disc back on to the PC I have no sound, unless I use Power DVD.

Also whenever I put a burnt disc in my PS2 (only other DVD drive in the house) it rejects the disc outright.

I'm using DVD RW discs if that changes anything.

I think its to do with the audio encoding rate.

If you encode at anything (guessing here - forgot the actual figure i think...) other than 44.1khz then it wont play back. PowerDVD can handle it because its made to handle all sorts of formats.

Yes, but more likely the PS2 doesn't support AC3 or DTS sound formats. PowerDVD has a software decoder for these.

I've got it all to work using DVD Rs, but the PS2 still wont play a DVD RW. Is there anything I can do or is this just a fact of life?

You could try a different brand of DVD+RW but to be honest that's a very long shot. I don't believe the Sony's drives are easily changed. You're stuck with +R's then, but they are very cheep now.

If that's the case I'll just have to stop being a tightwad and buy a proper DVD player!!!
