Unread mail message on welcome screen

I'm new to XP so it's taking a while to get my head around a few things. On the welcome screen, under my name, it states I have 1 unread mail.

I've been in outlook and I can't find it anywhere. Nothing in the inbox, deleted box, outbox - it's nowhere to be found.

I've even deleted all my messages but the message is still there. When I click on the message, it says unread message for [e-mail](1) Is the (1) relating to the amount of unread messages or prehaps another account which has the message in it?

Help me get rid of this annoying message.

I think it's linked to a hotmail account.

This makes sense as it will probably only be the "welcome" email.

But if you haven't registered an account I can't see how this will have happened, but If you use MSN messenger and it automatically logs you into [e-mail] then the message at the very begining will be the inbox for the hotmail account linked with the user profile.

had the same problem about a year ago, you need to download "Powertoys for Windows XP" in this package is a program called Tweak that allows you to modify this feature (turn it off!). hope this helps

Not express, just outlook.

There's only the one account that I've set up and thats my pop3, service provider account. I don't have a hotmail account at all.

I might need to give xp a tweak.

outlook express will be installed (part of IE install)and probably has a welcome message in it.

I ususally find they're quite unwelcome!
