System Upgrade - Is this good value?
Discussion
My present system which is 5years old has a 450Mhz AMD processor, 8Gb hard drive and 256mb RAM running on Windows 98. It's been very good during the time I've had it so 'm tempted to go back to the same local supplier. They're currently offering the following package. I would welcome your views as to whether it represents good value for money.
ATHLON 64 3200+
512mb DDR400 MEMORY
120GB 7200 HARD DISK
NEC 16X DVD±ReWriter
1.44MB FLOPPY DRIVE
128MB RADEON 9600 pro 5.1 SOUND
LAN 56.6 V92 MODEM
15” GNR TFT MONITOR
MICROSOFT WIRELESS
KEYBOARD & MOUSE
FULL SYSTEM: £787
BASE UNIT ONLY: £539

My first thought was 'too expensive', though I'm no expert in home PC's. Check Scan or even a mainstream manufacturer such as Dell and see what you can get for your money....
As an example,
DimensionTM 2400
Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor (2.80GHz, 512kB L2 cache, 533MHz FSB)
Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition
256MB DDR RAM (Was 128MB)
15" Analogue Flat Panel Monitor (15.0" v.i.s.)
Free Delivery - worth £57.58 inc vat
From:
£471
Price inc. VAT & Del. Save £58.
Due to End 24/11/2004.
