Windows media player problem

nowadays, when i goto play some old 'wmv' video files, my pc crashes to a blank screen an needs rebooting, an i get the error message - 'write fault error writing device AUX'

also, mpg files play in a choppy fashion, as do my mp3 files.

this all occurs via windows media player, but not if winamp played.

so as i assume the files that 'windows media player' uses are corrupted, then could someone here list them, so i can copy over the original win98 ones via there cdrom CAB file, as reinstalling windows doesnt fix this problem.

Windoze 98 2005 is a nearly a month away. You should be grateful the PC is still running.

Have you checked to see whether the string which is connected to the internet is tight enough ?

so what if 2005 is a nearly a month away, what counts is that software does its job. An i neednt be grateful the PC is still running, as most home users have win95-98, an theyre all ok by it.

Have you checked to see whether your operating system is as secure as win-98, as it's replacement has massive security probs an is prone to crash more often.

Xp more likely to crash more than 98! You're having a laugh surely?!?!

XP is sooo much better than any of the other MS OS's, if well looked after with SP2 etc its great, even without its pretty damn good!

Get a copy, your machine will thank you.

That's not my experience. Haven't seen a Win95 PC for at least 3 years and the rest of my domestic customers are split with about 60% having XP and 40% a mix of 98 and ME.

thats coz you dont use your pc as variedly as others, for if you did, you'd notice how often imcompotability problems bedevil XP compared to win98.
In addition XP still allows more hacking into your pc to occur - an thats after SP2 has been ran.

thats coz win95+98 pc's aren't 'made' to be sold anymore.
an you're looking at it too regionaly, whereas globablly win95-98 are used more.
in fact more pcs have win3.1 on them than XP

moral : not everybody can afford or needs XP.

ps- if that media player link above doesnt contain its support files it wont help
