Really Cheap Printer??
Discussion
I am currently stuck without a printer at Uni and need something as cheap as possible to print out notes/essays etc.
Doesn't have to be anything fancy, just something that I can connect up to my laptop as and when I need it.
Does anyone have any suggestions of specific brands or models? and what should I be looking out for when browsing?
Thanks

I remember a while back a company bought the designs for the HP 640C and were selling a USB version for ~£30, that included two brand new cartridges. The printers were crap but generaly out lived the cartridges that they came with so when it the ink ran out, you simply went out and bought a new printer.
There are plenty of deals like that, but if you don't want to mess about buying new printers, either look to getting an old HP (newer ones uses a slightly different tech of ink cartridge which won't let you refil the them apparently) or an Epson who have the expensive heads inside the printer so ink can be picked up for ~£4

You can have our Epson Stylus 880 for free if you can pick it up.
The nozzles got kind of blocked, so we got a cleaning cartridge, a couple of cycles of that and it didn't get it back 100% so we got another printer.
There's a few colour and a few black cartridges to go with it as well as the cleaning one. A little patience, a few more cleaning cycles and I think it'll be fine.

Don't be too optimistic... Epsons are notorious for blocked nozzles, keeps happening and getting worse and worse but responds to cleaning sufficiently well to make you think "if I do this often enough it'll be OK eventually"
The advantage of the HP system is that you can change the print head without any hassle, so you keep refilling the cartridges until the nozzles clog then get a new one. Don't know about these new-fangled ones you can't refill, but it wouldn't surprise me if a little googling didn't turn up a way you can in fact refill them.

I've had terrible trouble in the past with Epsons. Managed to pick up an HP 3420 about a year ago from my Mum's work cause they couldn't get it to work. Since I don't print an awful lot of stuff out it's ideal for me and gives surprising good results.
The above is right. Check for cartridge prices at somewhere like www.ink2u.co.uk first (good service by them too!).
