Coolest MP3 Player
Discussion
Right. I am thinking of getting my dear lady wife an MP3 player for Christmas.
Loads of choice, therefore. However she loves gadgets and would therefore require the coolest, grooviest, MP3 player thingy wotsit that there is (within reason and my wallets ability to endure its cost!).
What do I get her? iPod?
She will shove CDs into her PC and expect the noise to whisk up the cable to the device without complaint at high speed and therefafter never be required again.
We don't have a Mac. And we don't expect to buy tunes on-line, particularly, but will want to upload from CDs we own.
Any/all advice welcome. (She's not getting anything made by Vertu OK!

Mate at work's got one of these :-
www.advancedmp3players.co.uk/shop/product_info.php?cPath=1&products_id=311
It works well and is the best MP3 player I've ever seen (and I've seen lots).
When it's off the display part is a mirror. The display itself is fantastic.

Ive just got "Er In Doors" an Archos AV400 MP3/4 Video player for Christmas. £350 from here -> www.advancedmp3players.co.uk/shop/product_info.php?products_id=322
Been recording Status Quo as a suprise for Christmas day - She lives in Slough and I live in Peterborough. It's a very nice piece of kit.

That is an unbelievably cool gadget. How big is it? The site hasn't really given me an impression. If its too big/heavy its not going to suit her as she will want to use it on the train to London.

Based on the info from the site it's pretty small:

In to its tiny beautifully finished brushed aluminium body (x-protect) they have crammed enough functionality to for it to out perform all of its competitors. It may be a late entry to the flash MP3 player market, but in this instance the best has been saved for last!
However it's only 512MB so can't fit too many songs on it...

Cowon Iaudio M3, smaller than an iPod, some are even lighter than an iPod. Made out of aluminium so you don't get that horrible scratching on the back of the case like you do with iPods. On the fly playlists; which iRiver can't do yet (although they are going to bring it out whenever their next firmware comes out - don't hold your breath). If you buy the M3L you can get up to 35 hours of battery life. It appears as a removeable drive when you plug it into your computer's USB. It has a radio, voice recorder and you can plug it into a CD player/audio device and record straight off it.
Prices start from £209.99 for 20GB or £239.99 for the 20GB 35 hour battery life or the 40GB one with about 14 hours battery life. Click here to see the range available on Amazon and advancedmp3players.com in order to get an idea of how it looks.

the iPod Photo does come with the SD slot, but it's made by Belkin and has to be bought for a further £100.
Personally, I'd stay well away from the iPod. I've had mine a little over a year and the hold button has failed, and normal usage (i.e. getting the bus into town for 1 hour each way and stuff) the battery started to only last 4 hours where as before it lasted ages.
And on top of that apple wanted £159 to fix the damned thing as I reported it one day after the year warranty ran out.
not saying anyone else is better, just the product isn't as good as everyone says it is.
