Can anybody give me the lowdown on the relative size differentials between CRT monitors & TFT panels. Am I right in thinking that a 15" TFT Panel gives roughly the same visible area as a 17" CRT monitor? and similar differences as you go up in the sizes of monitors.

On the same subject would you have any recommendations for the purchase of a TFT with/without multimedia. Not looking for anything flash, but circa £150 ish for a 15".

Rich.

Yep a 15" TFT has the same viewable area as a 17" CRT

That ratio is about the same all they way up so 17/19 19/21 and so on.

As a general rule, with CRT's take about 1" off the published size to get the viewable area. With TFT's the published size is the same as the viewable area.

Under this scheme a 15" TFT is about the same as a 16" CRT, which seems to follow my own experiences.

I may be talking absolute bolonni but my 17" tft seems to be about the same width as me old 17" crt but alot taller. Alot more viewable area but but it'd probably be better if it was a widescreen.

I got a refurbished Sony 17" from www.digi-uk.com last year and it's going great. Very pleased
