Hi
My Brother has now got the latest superdooper machine and has offered mee his castoffs (reminds me of jumpers)
Anyway his old pc is slightly better than my current jobie but with the added bonus of a free fresh start. A chance to get rid of the last 4 years worth of drivel and load only internet and camera software/imaging etc. No word/office, strange exe progs and wierd folders, nadda. Cos it's spare!

So, how do i start again with only the operating system which will be win 98s? A step by step would be great and i do have a legal copy of the disk.
Thanks
Ian

Put CD in, boot off it. Wait till you get the chance to format it and format it. Let 98 install, job done

Just make sure you get all the driver disks first.

Once PC is up and running, update any drivers you have and the job's done.

Bit trickier if the machine is that old it won't boot from CD, you need to create a set of boot floppies, but hopefully you wont need to!

you can format the HD in another machine of course, then reinstall in your *new* pc, put win98 CD in the cd drive and it will install from scratch on your *clean* hd .. that's how i do it, well i did until I lost my win98 disc .. doh!

Or even easier is to copy the contents of the win98 CD onto your newly formatted hard disk, with another PC.

Done it!
I had to set up a new profile on here though as i clicked on someting win 98 asked me about remembering and i think i entered the wrong password. Still this is the old pc as the new one's hard drive made really bad noises.
this one runs brilliantly at the moment though and it's only p3 with 500mb ram.
i just opened msdos and did format:C then reinstalled 98 and other stuff i need.
Took over 4 hours as i couldn't figure out how to run windows untill i read half the book. Should have known you just type setup!
Anyone know how i can get my old profile back? Because i put in the wrong password and clicked remember me it just kept saying "you are succesfully logged in" evertime i wanted to post something or look at mystuff. And there was no Hi Bilko either.
Still small price to pay as i now have a virtually new pc!
Cheers
Ian
