Using a DVD burning software (Serif DVDPlus). It has worked once but now comes up with error message when trying to burn a DVD:

"could not open temporary file”, also comes up with “could not create volume image” occasionally

Serif software support site were absolute w4nk (no, worse than that), nothing on internet to help.

Some kind of privilege restriction stopping me creating a temporary file?

Any ideas greatly appreciated

Try deleteing all tempoarary files on your machine. Disk Cleanup will do most of it for you.

Also a Defrag will help speed it up too.

Try increasing the swap file space. And while you're at it, set the min and max sizes to the same value to force Windoze to use the value you decide rather than frigging about with it on the fly.

Assuming Win2k/XP:

My Computer-->Properties-->Advanced-->Performance-->Virtual Memory-->Change

Swap file = virtual memory = hard disk space used by the operating system in lieu of actual memory. Could be that your software is trying to create or access a temporary file that is too large to fit into memory, so its using virtual memory as well, only to find that there's not enough of that either!

Note that you can change the max value to something bigger, which was the original point I was trying to suggest

Out of interest, what's it currently set to and how much RAM do you have?

Well that lot should be plenty. Must be something else, then.

meant to say - cannot open temporary directory

Serif help line no help whatsoever

still haven't sorted it yet

Seems co-incidental, but installed the Windows XP Service Pack 2 about the same time

Check tmp and temp are set to a valid location.

Set your page file back down to about 650mb, you might be noticing it takes considerably longer to start up and shut down at the moment...

yep, checked with an IT guy and says that they're OK

Stuck for an explanation. Do you think XP SP2 could have caused the problem?

Check that you have deleted the temp files from both your temp directory in c:windows and the one in your profile - you should find it here:

C:Documents and SettingsYOUR USER NAMELocal Settings emp

If you cannot see your Local settings directory go to Tools>Folder Options>View> show hidden files or folders.

If this does not work visit the Serif Forums. If the help desk has not been any use then the other users should be able to help (they usually know more than the tech support staff - there are reasons for this which I will not go into )

www.serif.com/forum/default.asp

Oh and another thing - bit far fetched, but try naming the disk with just 8 normal characters with no spaces.

cheers Ace-T

Still doesn't work

Cleared .tmp files.

Had tried the serif forum before and posteed the problem. No joy there.

The first error message was is "Generator initialization, Generator module closed. Could not create volume image". Serif helpline had no idea here either.

I'll repost on the serif forum but running out of ideas

Maybe try another DVD writing suite? I think Nero has a 30 day demo that you could try.

The reason I bought Serif DVDPlus was because the pre-installed Click to DVD (Sony Vaio) had given up. DVDPlus worked for a few DVD's then all these error messages.

I'm beginning to think it's the PC and not the software.
