What do I do now?

Slight problem. New widescreen TV turns up yesterday. Deliverymen depart sniggering "You're never gonna get that up the stairs".
So is it true that you cannot move a plasma screen around except in the upright position that the screen is viewed in i.e. I can't lay it flat, or move it an angle as it is carried upstairs? If so, I'll have to get a mate to help me shift it....

The only reason you can't lay plasma flat is in case the glass cracks under it's own weight. You'll be fine carrying it at an angle, but i would recommend getting a friend over to make sure you spread the weight evenly.
At the end of the day, you've got house insurance, so just get a new one if you drop it
