I have just bought a Netgear RP114 router off a friend (the plan is to negate the need for a firewall).
Apparently NTL used to require the router's MAC address to be registered prior to connection with the device.......but we've been told that is no longer the case. Correct?

I've tried connecting without success to the inet with the router (via a set top box). The instructions for connection have (unusually for me) been carried out to the letter......but without success. I've tried re-starting the PC, router & set top box in varying ways but still with no luck. Is there some simple thing 've missed here?

TIA

Was speaking to a NTL techie last night as i too was having problems getting a belkin router working with a settop box from NTL.

they told me to turn everything off.
then:
- turn on set-top box and wait until you have 2 green solid lights (the set-top box that my clent had was the grey PACE box)
-once there are 2 solid green lights on the front then turn the router on until the connection light has stopped flashing and it too becomes a solid light.
The router is now communitcating with the set-top box and the router now also has internet access.
- turn on one PC and configure the pc to see the router, by default this should happen automatically.
- once the PC is configured and you open IE try to go to a web site, the NTL Provision page should now appear and you will have to create a profile so that your Set-top box is recognised with the NTL server, go through the step of entering the PID # and Password. Go all the way until the end.
- turn the PC off when indicated, turn the router and set-top box off. then turn them on again in the same way as described above.
That PC should now be able to see the net.

Let me know how you get on with that, as i am curious to see if this works with all routers and PC setups.

thanks

no worries.
The NTL set-top box is a bitch to set up. The belkin system was a clients and i was there for a good 45mins getting this to work.
Once its setup though, it works fine (unless they frack up the connection)
