Hiya guys

Lets hope i get a bit more success with this one?

I currently have a Net Gear router, but its fallen over and I need to get a replacement.

It is for business use, but it only needs to have 1 Ethernet port as it is fed direct into the server.

Any thoughts??

I've got a Linksys WAG54G, can't fault it.

Includes a 4 port switch, worked straight out of the box.

Forgot to mention, this is a wireless model, but I'm sure they have a wired only model.

And the reason I got this one was my Netgear went up in smoke, I think they're losing the plot, used to be bulletproof but the last two bits of kit Wireless ADSL Router and 8 port switch have both performed less than reliabily. I assume the Linksys stuff is reasonable because they're owned by Cisco.

Me too - recently my DLink ADSL modem died (strange fault too) and replaced a whole load of stuff with this one. Always rated Linksys, but then again I know people who swear at them though. I have used Linksys for years and they do what is printed on the box....

I know a few people who use Netgear and rate them too. Some of the other less popular brands tend to be a little too technical and not as easy to use...

we picked up a Thomson Speedtouch 510e and it's a cheap and nasty router, but does it jobs well enough for the SOHO.

I set-up a Linksys for my sister and family instead of their BT/Freeserve broadband modem. Easy to configure and security is OK. Not the very cheapest, but it works, and as has been said, they're owned by Cisco.

BT Voyager 2100 - about £80.00. 1 port, wireless, easy to use, 54mps and no problems (so far).

Another vote for Linksys.
Got the WAP54G and the WAG54G and both are great. You can turn wireless access of in the firmware so even if you don't need it at the moment, you wouldn't have to buy another router if you did need it in the future.

If you just want a solid router then theres nowt nasty about these. If you want easy firewall with it look else where but as a router these do exactly what they say on the tin day in and day out.

My Netgear went up in smoke in December. Bought the Linksys WAG54G and it appeared to be OK. However it occasionally (2-3 times a day) drops the wireless side of things and requires a reboot. Not unheard of either, Google for Linksys WAG54G problems. Still deciding what to do / uploading new firmware etc / testing etc.
Cheers,
Paul

Binatone ADSL 2000 router..

It's actually bloody good.. I've been running one for about 18 months, it's run in all manner of configurations and hasn't let me down once (that's tempted fate hasn't it!)

I can't recommend this USRobotics 9106 one enough :-

www.usr-emea.com/products/p-broadband-product.asp?prod=bb-9106&loc=unkg

Includes ADSL Router, 802.11g WAP, 4x10/100 Switch, Firewall, Full software update, Onboard OS & Diagnostics.

I'm in the industry and have used many cheap ones but these ones really are good.
