Ok, I've tried google, forum and other searches and still haven't found a solution. I have a fairly low spec PC at home (low spec all being relative I suppose) thus:
Athlon 600Mhz
396Mb RAM
Soundblaster 5.1
Maxtor G400
NEC 3500 DVD RW
Win2K

Problem is that I cannot get commercial DVDs to play properly without either huge 'lip sync' problems or stuttery sound. I've tried DMA, UDA settings etc. The DVD is connected to the Soundblaster via SPDIF. Sound etc when making a DVD home recording is ok.

So, is it the spec that is the problem (ie processor or lack of ram or sound/graphics cards)? Anything anyone else can suggest testing/changing?

Sorry, should have said that the problems exist playing either through Nero Showtime or std DVDPlayer.

Installed PowerDVD and everything worked fine. Thanks.

Bizzare isn't it, no change to specs yet PowerDVD works fine and other 'respected' software doesn't. Oh well, sorted.
