Looking at buying a new phone as a Christmas gift for my daughter.

Looking online there is significant savings to be had from sites like Cove Technology and Simply Electronics.

Simply Electronics have the Samsung Galaxy S5 mini for only £225 and Sony Z3 Compact for £315.

They have a tab for "what's in the box" and the Samsung only mentions the phone, but the Sony lists all the accessories.

What exactly are they selling? Is it proper brand new factory sealed boxes, or do their prices come at a cost?

A quick Google of both just adds to my doubt. Seems they are selling imported phones and often take an age to arrive.

Looks like I'll just need to keep an eye open for a good deal somewhere in recognise and trust.

Anyone know of any good deals?

Thanks, but not interested in contract phones or old iPhones.

I think simply electronics is the one a friend of mine uses.

He says their delivery times are patchy at best. I wouldnt be relying on them to get a christmas present with a little over three weeks to go.

The Z3 Compact is £380 on Amazon for the orange coloured version. Argos and Tesco are asking £400 against Simply Electrical's £315.

I've read enough to make me decide I'm not taking the risk. Especially not for a gift.

It was also the S5 mini I was looking at. Not the old S3 mini.

I've got an invite for a OnePlus One you can have if you'd consider a large, high end phone rather than a smaller one. Unbeatable at the price IMO, £265 for the 64Gb model SIM free.

See, that genuinely sounds like it could be a BMW coupe.

Thanks for the offer. I fully agree about value for money.

The reason I was looking at mini/compact phones as I feel they are big enough for a teenager.

Her hands aren't big enough for the huge phones.

£325 with free delivery on amazon. not worth taking a risk for a tenner.

Used Simply once for a camera, never again. Grey import with no warranty, delivery took an age and they didn't want to let me cancel the order and have a refund.

The reviews of WOW Camera don't seem good either.

It looks as if their items are also imported.

The go to phone for this type of question is the Moto G.
I honestly cannot fault mine, it's not huge, it's cheap and it's due the Lollipop update. Which would I suppose lend it some Kudos over a Samsung.

Oh yes nearly forgot it has the bonus of not having Touchwizz.

Got my nexus 5 from Clove no hassle.

People moan though saying there's a massive wait. Yes true but it tells you that when you order your delivery will only come when they've stock.

Worth bearing in mind if you want it quickly.

I have the moto g 2 , which I am quite happy with. A 32gig memory card and a case and I do not need anything else. 4g was not an issue as I neither have it at home or work. That is the only reason I would change this phone for.
I doubt if the younger members of my family would like it, probably not trendy enough

Quite a few people ordered the Z3C from clove in the Z3 Compact thread without issue http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Was going to suggest Handtec as they have it for £333; a recent poster stated that they received the phone from Handtec and it wasn't as new.
