I'm looking for something simple and free to mess around with creating midi files from mp3s to send to my phone to use as ringtones.
Any suggestions? Cheers!

Right OK, thanks for the link. So any idea how to create a ring tone from a song in my own collection? Not that I'm tight, it's just I have songs I'd rather use than the usual crap you can get on the web.

Depends on the phone really.
My nokia 6600 (and most comperable units) will let you punt mp3/wav files to it for use are ringtones, assuming you have enough memory.
However if you have to have a midi file try hunting around on-line, don't try search for ringtone's but song X MIDI otherwise you'll most likey end up at one of the ringtone sellers websites.

Unfortunatley there is no real way to go directly from mp3/wav to midi.

What phone do you have?

The best MP3 to MIDI converter is a trained musician wouldn't bother using a converter but I'm sure the MIDI you want is somewhere on the web .. what song is it?

It's a Nokia 6820. I haven't decided on a particular tune yet, as wanted to play around and see which ones sounded best. The phone can play realtones as opposed to these crappy polyphonic jobbies, so maybe i should juct create a low bit-rate mp3 or whichever bit of the tune i want. I thought it would be easier than that though.

MP3 the only way then! Just transfer it onto the phone via Bluetooth, IR or if you get stuck, FTP/WAP. Should support most formats?

If not you can get MP3 to AMR converters, might be one on the PC suite.

MP3 -> AMR
There's one on the Nokia website called Nokia Multimedia Converter IIRC.
