Folks, sorry if this is a real muppet question , but where in XP Home can I edit the programmes that load on boot-up? There's all sorts of crap loading that makes my boot-up take an age.

Thanks,
Gixxer

The easy non technical way is just to type

msconfig

in the run box and look on the startup tab. Enable/disable what you want.

Even better is to use the SysInternals freeware program Autoruns because it lets you "see what programs are configured to startup automatically when your system boots and you login. Autoruns also shows you the full list of Registry and file locations where applications can configure auto-start settings" and it "goes way beyond the MSConfig utility bundled with Windows Me and XP".

Very good.

Cheers guys. Very helpful. Still can't find what's causing this stinking spyware to re-spawn.

Just about to post a new help threat on this.

Cheers,

Sounds like you need a copy of spybot.

Have you updated it?

If it's the latest, get for a copy of hijackthis www.spychecker.com/program/hijackthis.html and post up the log file.... That should point us to the problem.
