In IE, if you have a lot of bookmarks but only use a few regulalry, it hides the others. I just started using Firefox full time this week and wondered if it does the same, is there a box I need to tick?

Are you sure IE does that? If so, it must be a setting because mine never has on a number of PCs. Never seen the feature in Firefox but might be worth looking through the many add-ins that are available.

It certainly does, hides all the less used ones with a little double arrow pointing downwards under them to show all the other.

Can never remember the setting, something like 'Personal Menus'?

Yup, there is a setting in IE for this:

Go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced tab and untick "Enable Personalized Favorites Menu" to stop it happening.

Firefox doesn't have this feature, so all of your bookmarks will be displayed. It appears to be Microsoft only feature.

just move all your commonly used bookmarks to one of the sections.

Mine are all in my Bookmarks Toolbar Folder. The minimise all of them and open the BTM when you want them

I like to use my browser in maximized form and it won't keep the setting (i.e. I have to re-maximize everytime I open it)

My mouse internet buttons do not work anymore

any ideas?

also where are the favourites kept because I can't find them? How do I make sure I can keep them when changing computers?

plus the bookmark icons. I like all my bookmarks to have the same icon and not the one the site supply. How do I stop firefox reloading the site icon?

Via menu:
#Boomarks #Manage Bookmarks... #File #Export... copies your bookmark-file where you want it.

Or you may as well copy the bookmark.html from your profile. (look here where your profile is located)

Changing the boomark's icons is a UI hack. Look here to see this is done: www.mozilla.org/unix/customizing.html
(it's for Mozilla, but works as well in Firefox)

Researched a bit further, an found out it is easier:
Type about:config into the address bar. A list with configuration options opens.
Search for
browser.chrome.favicons and
browser.chrome.site_icons
Doubleclick each, that will set them to "false", and only std. icons will be shown in the bookmarks menu and on the personal toolbar after restarting Firefox.

Press F11 to go into Kiosk mode. When you restart Firefox, it starts maximised (although not in Kiosk mode, maybe this is a bug).

Rename either via #Bookmarks #Manage Bookmarks or with the right mouse button menu while you click on a bookmark (either on the toolbar or in the bookmark menu).

To hide the Bookmarks Toolbar, you can uncheck it in the menu #View #Toolbars

You can change the shortcut settings for the icon that you use to launch firefox. Right-click on the shortcut and choose Properties. In the dropdown where it says "Run" set it to "Maximized"
