We have a TV at home for which there is no remote..... which means there is no way of tuning it in, and adjusting picture quality settings etc.

A google search reveals a few "generic" remotes for the make of TV (Thomson) but does anyone know if these replacement remotes actually perform all of the setup functions as well as changing channels etc?

The more expensive ones can usually be programmed to, but you may need an original remote in order to "copy" some of the less frequently used options... in which case you wouldn't need the generic one at all!

What do Thompson have to say about it? Can you get a new remote from their spares dept? Would a remote from a newer Thompson TV work just as well?

Alot of the programmable 'Pronto' style remotes have alot of user groups on t'web which include amongst other things lots of stored codes for specific bits of kit. It may be worth your while having a surf around.....

My Sky remote will control the tuning etc. on my Ferguson portable. You can program the remote to work pretty much any TV so it might be worth a try. I've got a spare one if you want to try it without buying one.

Nevo .... Probably the best multi-function remote software I have ever seen.

Yes, I have programmed my Sky remote to operate the basics of it (channel changing and volume) but the picture settings are too high (over saturated colour etc) and I can't retune the channels using the Sky remote... hence the need for a Thomson replacement
