After burning several coasters, and the difficulty in finding concise info on google, I am asking my fellow PHers:

I am trying to burn AVI to DVD, to play on a DVD player.

- I have Sonic burner, but it does not let me burn some of them (The Burn button stay grey and no possibility to burn).

- I have tried a demo of DVDSanta, the sound track is not running at the same time as the video.

How do you do that guys ?

What's the best really out of all those Nero, etc...?

Mmmmm.....

It seems Alcohol is targeted at creating and burning images and ISO. Not really to encode AVI to DVD/DivX/Mpeg format and burn.

I use DVD Schrink + DVD Decrypter for this.

Nero is 400 Meg and probably overkill for what I want.

Is there no nice little application around just to transfer an AVI file to MPEG and burn or DVD format and burn (My DVD player reads DivX and Mpeg)

I have come across www.video-converter.net which may be what you are looking for, I'm afraid I don't know too much about it but I think I tried it a while ago and it took days to convert on my puny athlon 750.

If you are just using DVD Vob files from DVD Shrink then use DVD Decrypter to create the iso image, use Alcohol to burn it to DVD.

If you are using AVI's and need to convert them then you are looking at additional software like ULead Movie Factory or DVDLab which does the full convert & burn job.

I tried this a while ago and followed Greg's advice which seemed to work well, although the encoding does take a very long time even on a quick pc.

If you've got some money to play with, try Adobe's Encore (make sure it is 1.5). Excellent stuff. It integrates with photoshop for menu creation, easy to use chapter and menuing. Animated menus, etc, etc, etc...
