Fleeced this off another forum and it actually seems to work

1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

Did it speed you up??

All well and good, but think of the servers / admins / websites you are abusing now.

there was a reason the requests were set lower in the first place. by making so many requests per second, you run the risk of actually being firewalled out by some of the up-market solutions.

You are effectivly bombarding the server with 30 (or more) requests a second. this is far more than 'normal' and if enough people do it, it WILL start to have an affect on the load. Requests that are spread out over a few seconds allow the server to cope with more users overall, if a larger number of those users start battering lots of requests per second, you could potentially end up with the server being unable to cope...

I know of several firewalls I have been involved on for larger clients that would block an individual IP for making over 20 requests PER SECOND, let alone 30.

Just a warning

Jamie, having just read your post I changed my requests back down to 8 (originally was 4). I think its faster when set to 8 than 30.

Internet is fast enough anyway as the uni has about 30Mbit . Whats that I can download at 3MBps if there arent too many people on
