AVG Anti Virus updates not working...?

For the past few days I have been unable to update the anti virus definitions for my AVG software. Anybody else having difficulties...?
I have even installed the free version to see if that updated, but it's the same story.
Last updates I got were on the morning of the 26th.

also bear in mind that AVG 6.0 free is now defunct and you should upgrade to free 7.0 I'm sure they were stopping any updates around this time.
I switched from AVG to AntiVir and prefer that one, although downloads are a little large.
I'm running AVG 7.0 Standard (ie: not free or pro). I uninstalled and put the latest version of free on (downloaded from the Grisoft site oddly enough) and that won't update either. Same for the other machine on my network and also for dad's laptop which is in a different location on a different connection.
I'll just leave it for the time being and let it sort itself out.
Thanks for the assitance chaps...!

ah, not a dig or anything, but I never quite understand why (home) users buy software - there is always a wealth of free alternatives available
That's OK, I am usually the same and until recently used the free version. We had to buy the proper one for work and there were some licences left over and I got one of those, otherwise I'd have stuck with free. When my licence expires, I'll go back to the freebie

I have experienced the issue as well, (slowly getting worse since I upgraded to the new version), but it seems that it is just that their servers are busy and if you try again later you will get through.
I think the delay is just due to the fact that they are getting more popular and getting more users and thier servers are getting nearer to max capacity.
As to why buy software; if I like something and find it useful I will donate to the developer or buy the software. They need to make a living too.

AVG6 support and upgrades are now due to finish on 15th Feb.
I've not noticed any download problems, just checked mine and it updated fine yesterday.
I also installed a load of v7 on thursday with no problems.
If you get any more problems let me know and i'll see what i can find out. ( we have a reseller account with grisoft)

Thanks for the offer of help Graham, much appreciated. Late last night it finally updated. Oddly, once it was connected the update came down very quickly (60kb/s on my 512kbit/s ADSL). It seems that perhaps Grisoft's servers are set up so that they can provide high speed downloads to a small number of clients. and they can't handle the number of requests. I'd be happier if they made the download speed half and doubled the number of connections available. or even 25% and 4x.
