My laptop is full of sh*t - years of neglect, so decided to clean up the disk. The Windows Disk-Cleanup thinggy didn't stand a chance and gives up, usually at the compression stage. Sometimes it bursts through this but seems unable to cope with the sheer volume of .tmp; .crap and all the other dross one acquires by spending a disproportionate amount of one's life working behind a pc.

Thinking that I had done a reasonable job of "tidying" and having a laptop that freezes regularly and BSODs occasionally, I tried a defrag - but each time it completes it tells me the disk needs a defrag. Tried several times even in Safe Mode, every time with the same result

So today I bought System Cleaner 4.9 and it found 150MB of files to clean up - GULP! - including 9500 cache files.

It also includes a Windows Startup Manager and I'm curious about 3 separate entries that were found in the registry. All were the same and a Google search failed to find them:

Program name: wqdfadads
Command line: sdqdad.exe

Anyone any clues as to what they might be??

Nope, easy way to find out if the file is essential is to rename it to .ex$ or something. You may get an error on boot up that points to the programme. Sounds like junk to me.

If it's not needed, remove it totally.

Is the corresponding exe on your hard disk? If so, its location might give a hint about its origin.

No trace of the .exe on the hard disk so disabled the 3 entries in Windows Startup manager and rebooted. no problem, everything seems to work so took the plunge and deleted them. Everything works fine. A whole load of files weren't defragging, about 1Gb's worth, so had a quick look through them and deleted what I didn;t need. Now it defrags OK and the Disk Cleanup works fine. Net: I gained about 2Gb, the system now boots up and shuts down twice as fast or better.

Thanks for the guidance
