I wonder if you chaps can help. I've currently got an excellent sunset, one of my own pics, as wallpaper on XP. For some reason I cannot find where I've put the original file. It's obviouly on there somewhere, as it's my backdrop. I looked at Display Properties, saw the name and ran a search - no dice.

Where does XP keep the info for where to look each time for the wallpaper image?

Cheers!

Ok, try this. Go to the desktop tab in properties. then select the picture from the list of various wallpapers, then hit browse. and it should send you to the folder where the picture is stored.

Well, it worked for me when I tested it.

Neither have worked - can't see it in System32 and Browse took me to My Documents - ant it's not in there.

or you could do a wildcard search for nameofphoto.* and that should bring up all the files with that name.

'Display properties' will give you the name of the file, can't you just search for that?

You may have deleted the original file hence it is not coming up under a search, however it is still showing up as a wallpaper as Xp will have created a temp bmp file with new name (in mine file is named Wallpaper1.bmp) and stores it in:

C:Documents and Settings(your user name)Local SettingsApplication DataMicrosoft

Be aware that "Local Settings" is a hidden folder so you need to enable "show hidden folders" in Folder Options.

Good luck.

P.s if this does not work, last resort would be hide all icons and taskbar on desktop, hit "print screen" and then paste into Photoshop or similar.
