Apple Mac G5......i fancy one but I also have a few Windows applications that I still need to keep running so has anyone here got any experience of Virtual PC for Mac? (Version 7 preferably?)

I've heard very good things about Virtual PC. When i first changed i fully intended to use it, but the simple fact is that Office is available for OS-X and for most applications there is either a mac version of a suitable replacement.

What applications do you need to run?

G5... bliss. I want one!

Lovely looking machines and OSX is supposed to be very good.

The PC emulator does have limits though I have heard its not all that supportive of applications that try to be clever with memory...

The question should really be "What do you want to do?"

There will most likely be an equivalent Mac application that will do what you need, easier, quicker and faster

I've got VPC 7 running XP on my dual 2ghz G5, and it is useable for the odd app now and again, but I wouldn't want to use it for anything processor intensive as it runs at about the speed of a PII.

As said previously, most of the stuff you think you need a PC for is available on the Mac, or an alternative is.

The other (probably cheaper/faster) option is to buy a basic PC base unit and connect to it using Remote Desktop.

I just want it for older apps that I use. Just those things you never want to get rid of! lol

MS Office 2003 would also be nice as I have a full legal copy so i'd have to get another one for my Mac.

The main reason for getting one (and i want the dual 2Ghz beast), is for my video editing work and photography work.

Also website design is a major plus using dreamweaver. The only thing i'm not so keen on is the single button mouse with no scroll wheel. Surely even Apple would start using a wheel....(and a 2nd button?)....or could I use my fantastic Logitech mouse (and keyboard) on my new Mac when i get it?

Shouldn't be a problem. First thing I did when I got my G4 was plug in my Microsoft mouse

According to your licence, you 'should' be able to ask Microsoft to replace your PC version with a Mac version, for a small 'media & admin' charge.

Or you could download Open Office, it's compatible with MS Office and the best bit is it's totally free . It runs under X11 which you may have to install, but works fine.
