Outlook and IE hang up

Moving from the Wedge forum on a rainy sunday...
My computer (Win2K Pro) froze while my kids were gaming on the Internet so they actually pulled the plug.
The computer re-booted and works OK. The problem is neither Outlook 2000 or IE 6.x can access the Internet. Both time-out while trying. The computer is hardwired to a router thence to a DSL modem. Recycled the computer, router, modem, with no luck. However, other computers on router access fine.
Also ran reinstall/repair on Outlook and IE with no improvement. Any ideas? Thanks
